Duties

OIG employees will remain at their current location.

As an Supervisory Health Systems Specialist, you will:

- Plan, develop, coordinate, monitor, and implement a nationwide program of inspections and special reviews of Veterans Health Administration medical centers, medical regions, and headquarters quality assurance and patient care activities.
- Coordinate with Office Inspector General regional offices and headquarters staff in research and analysis required to develop inspection proposals for annual work plans.
- Participate with the Assistant Inspector General for Healthcare Inspections in planning meetings for scheduling inspections and projects, and leads national inspection, projects, and research efforts.
- Meet with key headquarters and field program officials in Veterans Health Administration and Office Inspector General to provide comprehensive briefings during the different phases of inspections and projects.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience is one (1) year of experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: (1) providing leadership and direction to multiple healthcare inspection teams to ensure support for inspections that evaluate quality improvement and patient care issues; AND (2) performing in-depth reviews and evaluations of quality improvement processes and patient care issues in a healthcare environment and in conformance with regulations; AND (3) leading inspections teams, which includes planning and coordinating the review work, performing data validation, and writing and editing draft and final reports while meeting set deadlines.
OR
Successful completion of an agency-sponsored on-the-job training program may be substituted for qualifying experience, provided it included a formal individualized training plan. Such a training program must have been conducted in an operating health care system and included: Assignments providing a knowledge of basic health system administration philosophies, practices, and procedures, and basic government administrative policies and requirements; Practical assignments providing an opportunity to apply health system administration skills and principles (as the individual progresses, work assignments must be characteristic of the grade level to which he or she is assigned); and Oversight by an experienced health system administrator with periodic evaluation of the individual's progress and appropriate adjustment of the training program.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
