Full TimeJob Summary: The Pulmonary Function Technologist performs pulmonary functions on adult and pediatric patients.
Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid Oklahoma Respiratory Care Practitioner License. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 2 months of hire.
Work Experience: 1 - 2 years related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to integrate the analysis of data to discover facts or develop knowledge, concepts or interpretations. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Performs pulmonary functions on adult and pediatric patients in a timely manner and follows CDC guidelines on aseptic technique. Prints and charts findings in the medical record. Performs pulmonary function within 24 hours of being ordered. Reports findings in the medical record immediately following study. Follows CDC guidelines when performing tests. Performs metabolic resting & exercise studies on adult & pediatric patients in a timely manner & follows CDC guidelines on aseptic technique. Prints & charts findings in the medical records & contacts attending physicians when necessary. Collects & records all pertinent patient data on every test 100% of the time. Performs charting & charging computer processing within 1 hour of test completion. Collects & collates data for any QA audit & reports them to QA Coordinator. Collects and records pertinent patient data, performs computer charting and appropriate charging of procedures. Performs and documents equipment maintenance and calibrations, weekly tracks, malfunctions and repairs by performing the proper paperwork. Maintains testing equipment in a ready state by performing routine preventive maintenance and tracking calibrations, equipment failures and repairs. Maintains technician expertise by reading and documenting 1 article per month, sharing information with department management staff. Maintains current certifications. Provides education and training to other staff members on the use of testing equipment as needed. Provides clinical education to students, nurses and physicians as directed. Maintains technical expertise and provides educational opportunities for other departmental and hospital personnel, and physicians. Markets diagnostic testing to physicians and other healthcare agencies. Performs of metabolic studies in the absence of the metabolic technologist. Regularly visits with pulmonary physicians and others to assure that the appropriate tests and protocols are current.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision.
Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
