Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 5 8-hour shifts.

Job Summary: The Activity Coordinator coordinates and provides recreational activities for specified programs within the Saint Francis Health System (SFHS). This role ensures timely and accurate registration of all patients. They are responsible for insurance benefit verification/certification and collecting the patient's anticipated financial responsibility at the time of service as applicable. The Activity Coordinator always exemplifies excellent customer service.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in healthcare related field, preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

Work Experience: Minimum 1 year related experience in health insurance field or 2 years hospital registration experience required. Direct experience in hospital precertification and benefit/eligibility verification, preferred. Activity Coordinator training, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software. Excellent customer service skills. Strong de-escalation skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal that present clear and concise information. Sound ability to be detail oriented and organized. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Plans, implements, and evaluates patient participation in groups with supporting documentation. Completes and maintains necessary patient documentation. Collaborates with nursing and therapy staff for individual patient group goals. Sorts, scans, and files documents and patient charts. Orders unit specific supplies. Verifies and documents patient insurance information and personal data. Calculates and collects the patient's anticipated financial responsibility and collects money from the patient/guarantor. Ensures necessary signatures and authorization are obtained on all required registration paperwork, explains the reason for each signature and answers questions that the patient or family has regarding the forms.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
