Job Summary: Responsible for the assessment, implementation, evaluation and coordination of department functions and resources as they relate to level of care determinations, resource utilization, documentation integrity and discharge planning.
Minimum Education: Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing, and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License.
Work Experience: 5 - 7 years related experience; Previous management and Utilization/Case Management experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to utilize MS Office applications. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Manages department divisions to assure clinical competency and effective utilization of staff to facilitate meeting organizational benchmarks for length of stay and resource utilization. Mentors staff utilizing effective communication and problem solving skills to achieve a shared vision of department and organizational strategic initiatives. Promotes interdisciplinary care and improved outcomes through communication with department, medical, patient care and ancillary staff; patients, families and third party payers to resolve problems and promote continuity of care. Acts as a liaison between the care management department to both internal and external departments and stakeholders. Participates in hospital wide activities to promote the services of the department. Assists the director with quality, service and budgetary initiatives. Monitors staff performance and productivity to assure department standards and goals are being met. Consults with the director on findings and recommendations to improve department performance. Assists with budget planning and management. Establishes and monitors staffing levels to facilitate meetings department goals and objectives within defined budgetary parameters. Performs new hire interviews, provides for structured orientation and training, conducts employee performance reviews, counsels and provides disciplinary action in accordance with defined organizational guidelines. Develops, implements, and evaluates departmental policies and standards of operation to maintain compliance with state, federal, and accrediting requirements.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.
Working Relationship: Direct Supervision of others - No. of people supervised: (20-30) Prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
