Job Summary: The Executive Director of Surgery Services has the responsibility for Surgery Services which includes Preadmission Testing, Surgery Admit and Discharge: Pediatric and Adult, Main Operating Room, Cardiovascular Surgery, Anesthesia, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Endoscopy: Inpatient and Outpatient, Natalie Surgery Center, Central Sterile Processing, and Surgery Support Services. Decision making is largely autonomous with administrative responsibility for planning, operation, customer satisfaction, patient safety, program development and financial performance of all areas.
Minimum Education: Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing, and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required. Master's Degree in Nursing or Business Administration required.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License; National Certification/CNOR preferred.
Work Experience: 8-10 years related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Skilled in program development, strategic planning, team building, and developing physician relationships.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Provides vision and the global knowledge of the surgical specialties to assist in the development of the hospital's strategic plan within the context of the mission, vision and values of Saint Francis Hospital. Provides vision and direction for strategic forecasting, budget planning and program development with the use of environmental scanning and statistical analysis. Actively involves managers and staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating the strategic plan within the surgery service line. Collaborates with senior nursing leadership in developing, implementing and evaluating the Nursing Services Goals and Objectives. Continuously monitors overall utilization of human and material resources and directs corrective action related to fiscal management and reflecting the vision and mission of Saint Francis Hospital. Develops the service line's capital purchasing budget with a focus on five year staged replacements and revenue producing new program development. Collaborates with Material Management for supply and implant contracting to achieve best pricing agreements. Directs activities that promote the delivery of effective, safe patient care that achieves optimal patient outcomes. Coordinates the service line quality improvement program to monitor and assess compliance to standards and maintenance of competencies. Directs the development of departmental and division policies, procedures, and guidelines to comply with professional accreditation and regulatory standards. Serves as a member of the Patient Safety Committee, Quality Improvement Council, Joint Commission Oversight Committee, and New Technology Committee. Serves as chair for Procedural Patient Safety Committee. Serves on the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee to oversee the credentialing and evaluation of allied health personnel not employed by the organization. Collaborates with the medical staff leadership to assure equitable management of surgical services resources, access to surgery and endoscopy scheduling, and program development. Monitors technological and procedural advancements to assure the organization meets the needs of the medical staff and the community it serves. Utilizes a Systems Approach to provide leadership for intradepartmental activities and problem resolution. Mentors managers and staff using effective communication and problem-solving skills. Responsible for the management of all clinical contracts within the service line including anesthesia and intraoperative neuromonitoring. Fosters a service environment that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and customer focus to promote patient, physician and staff satisfaction.

Working Relationships: Directs supervision of others. Prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works with other health care professionals and staff. Works with customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
