DEGREE: 01 SAFETY SENSITIVE: No DATE: 11/25 Miscellaneous Codes: CUPA: 412130 SOC: 21-1012 JOB SUMMARY TheProgram Specialist of StudentRetention and Successis responsible for coordinating programmatic services to participants. This role is responsible for academic success, persistence, and graduation of first-generation students. The Program Specialist develops, implements, and assesses targetedprograms and support services that address the unique challenges these students face, including academic, financial, cultural, and social barriers. MAJOR DUTIES Recruits and identifies qualified eligible student participants. Conducts initial intake interviews and completes related paperwork. Arranges for and conducts initial and advanced assessments. Develop programming around navigating college systems, such as academic advising, financial aid, and registration processes. Identifies and monitors the academic performance of participants; develops intervention plans for those not making satisfactory progress. Develops and conducts instructional workshops on topics related to program requirements. Develop family engagement materials and workshops to help first-generation college students and their families better understand the college experience and learn effective ways to support their student's academic journey. First-generation student retention, GP A, course success and engagement metrics. Assists participants with course selections. Maintains participant files and records. Develop and maintain targeted communication plans (e.g., email, social media, newsletters, website) to keep students informed of program opportunities, deadlines, and support services. Maintains program website. Attends required training programs. Supervises the production of brochures, newsletters, and forms. Conducts required audits to meet goals and objectives of the department. Assists with filing Free Applications for Federal Student Aid. Performs related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of federal grant regulations. Knowledge of the principles of academic advisement. Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Student SupportServices Director assignswork in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and thenature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include H.E.A. amendments, Education Department General Administration Regulations, Cost Principles for Educational Institutions, grant requirements, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines requirejudgment, selection and interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of varied duties in the coordination of Student Support Services activities. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to coordinate Student Support Services activities. Success in this position contributes to the success of program participants. CONTACTS Contacts are typically with university personnel, faculty, staff, students, parents, representatives of state and federal agencies, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects. The work is typically performed in an office. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Leadership, Counseling, or related field. Minimum of three years' experience in retention, or academic success programs. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with studentsupport tracking systems. Proficiency in usingcomputers and job-related software (e.g., studentinformation systems, data analysis tools, communication platforms). Experience in maintain web pagesand social mediaplatforms.
