The Teacher Certification Coordinator must possess extensive knowledge of the teacher education admission process, degree programs, certification testing, and teacher certification regulations. Work involves a high level of responsibility for evaluating qualifications of applicants for admission, teacher testing, and certification. MAJOR DUTIES Serves in the capacity of office manager for the Office of Teacher Certification/Admission to Teacher Education, assuring that all work is processed promptly and accurately. Serves as point of contact for all those seeking alternative certification. The Certification Coordinator analyzes transcripts, provides academic counseling, and assists with enrollment. Coordinates the teacher education admission process; determines student eligibility; review grade point averages, test scores, and background checks. Assist with coordinating Teacher Candidacy interviews, communicates with clinical instructors and candidates concerning progress through the admission process. Confirms CEOE test registration for approved candidates, notifies faculty and students of field-testing opportunities. Determines applicant eligibility for teacher certification and makes recommendations to the State Department of Education. Maintains College of Education records and database relevant to teacher education, teacher certification testing, and certification, and prepares annual reports from this data as well as contributes to data needed for ongoing accreditation of teacher education program. Prepares and submits a variety of regular and special reports. Serves as coordinator for the Teacher Shortage Employment Incentive Program. Serves on assigned committees. Handles telephone, walk-in, and email inquiries seeking general and specific information concerning admission, CEOE testing, certification, and alternative certification requirements in Oklahoma. Performs related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of teacher certification requirements. Knowledge of testing requirements and procedures. Knowledge of university admissions standards. Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority. Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Academic Dean assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include State Department of Education standards, university admission and degree requirements, and teacher certification standards. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of varied duties in the coordination of teacher certification functions. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to coordinate the college’s teacher certification operations. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations. CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, elected and appointed officials, local school representatives, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table with physical activity such as stooping, bending, reaching. The work is typically performed in an office. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY This position has direct supervision over Administrative Secretary (1) and additional employees as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s in teacher education or related field, or completion of a teaching certificate. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in public schools or teacher education program. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s preferred in teaching or a related field.
