Position Purpose: Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, assist professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and free certified staff from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls.Essential Job Functions: Assist and guide students to reinforce academics; work with students individually and in small groups; assist with classroom exercises, tests and assessments; prepare instructional materials; assist with record-keeping; support behavioral management; supervise students in non-instructional areas; accompany students on field trips; construct and distribute educational materials; assist with parent contact; support students with special needs; participate in IEP process; assist students with activities of daily living; follow all safety rules.Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow instructions; basic arithmetic; computer skills; ability to work with diverse individuals; maintain confidentiality; establish supportive relationships; cooperate with staff and parents; communicate effectively. Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent; college coursework or qualifying exam; prior experience with special needs desirable. FLSA Status: Non-exempt.
