POSITION DESCRIPTION

MAINTENANCE LINEMAN-IN-CHARGE

The successful candidate must abide by the residency requirement and live within a ten (10) mile radius of the Okmulgee Post Office. Interested parties must complete an online application.

I. OBJECTIVES

A. To maintain maximum service to the membership by efficiently responding to outage

reports and other service calls in a manner that minimizes service interruptions and

provides for efficiency of operations and maximum safety for employees and the

general public.

B. To assure the highest possible degree of continuity of service to the members.

A. Reports To: General Superintendent

B. Supervises: Personnel Assigned To Crew

III. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

A. Assignment

1. Accepts assignment as required to any area within the project boundaries of

this Cooperative.

B. Responsibilities

1. Charged with the responsibility of maintaining a high level of morale and

Conduct, subordinate to leadership.

C. Directing

1. Directs the work activities of the district helper as necessary for him/her to

effectively perform his/her job, insuring that proper safety rules are followed at

all times.

2. Directs the work activities of other personnel temporarily assigned to him/her

for emergency or other work as may be required to maintain efficient flow of

operations.

D. Duties

1. Responsible for implementing work procedures as set forth by the Cooperative

and overseen by General Superintendent.

2. Properly prepares and submits all reporting forms as required by the

Cooperative (tailgates, before & after photos, hold tags, etc.).

E. Performs Personally

1. Investigates consumer outage reports and takes necessary action to restore

service according to established policies and procedures.

2. Observes and appraises the performance of crew members assigned to him/her,

counsels with them to help them improve and develop.

3. Performs personally, directs and trains others in all types of line work.

4. Keeps familiar with RUS standards and specifications, National Electrical Safety

Code standards, and other applicable regulations pertaining to electrical distribu-

tion line design, including secondary and member service installations.

5. Installs or changes out meters, transformers, capacitors, regulators, OCRs,

sectionalizers, service drops, and other system devices.

6. Works on energized conductors in accordance with prescribed procedures.

7. Patrols, records, reports, repairs distribution line on a routine basis.

8. Performs preliminary and final wiring verification of new and existing

services as requested and insure they meet Cooperative policy. Advises and

counsels with members on proper wiring procedures, and

recommends necessary action to insure adequate safety standards in the

members’ homes or installations.

9. Reads consumer meters, and all other metering devices pertinent to carrying out

efficient functional operations of the system.

10. Installs and maintains security and street lights where applicable.

11. Evaluates distribution system in assigned area and submits monthly

maintenance field report.

12. Maintains alertness at all times of hazards, such as defective anchors,

conductors, poles, transformers, etc.

13. Assists and directs other crews on work assignments as required.

14. Participates in emergency maintenance after normal working hours.

15. Constructs, revamps, and retires services as directed, and accounts for

required record data.

16. Complies with all traffic laws, safety rules and regulations, while operating

any of the Cooperative’s vehicles or equipment.

17. Performs special work assignments as requested for members, civic groups,

and other organizations to maintain good public and member relations.

18. Submits routine or special reports on all activities performed as requested.

19. Observes all safety rules and standards, and participates in safety and job

training programs.

20. Maintains records and reports of inventory on hand.

21. Responsible for safe, correct use, and preservation of all tools, vehicles, and

special equipment assigned to him/her.

22. Trims trees and removes other foreign objects from line right-of-way.

23. Maintains courteous relationships with members at all times.

24. Prepares reports on all accidents in area of operations, and submits to General

Superintendent.

25. Operates sectionalizers, reclosers, regulators, and other system devices.

26. Assists with Annual and District Meetings as required.

27. Performs other duties as may be assigned by General Superintendent.

28. Attends and participates in monthly job training and safety meetings.

29. Answers phone during storm and outage conditions.

IV. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Must have the ability to acquire and maintain a valid Oklahoma Commercial Drivers

License and to operate a motorized vehicle without assistance.

B. Must be able to effectively utilize a two-way radio in executing the position’s assigned

duties.

C. Must have the physical ability to climb poles of twenty-five (25) feet or greater, and the

agility to work in awkward positions to perform assigned operations.

D. Must possess the physical strength to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of materials

equipment, without external assistance or mechanical aids.

E. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

F. Must have the aptitude to logically and objectively evaluate obstructions and impedi-

ments to plans and programs, make rational independent decisions, and develop

reasonable solutions to problems.

G. Must have the ability to effectively interact with other Cooperative personnel, business

and industry representatives, Cooperative members, and the general public.

H. Must be able to perform field operations and inspections to execute the responsibilities

of this position without external assistance.

I. Must have the aptitude to perform assigned duties in a proper and safe manner for all

voltages and facilities.

J. Must have the ability to perform the outside duties of this position during extremes of

heat and cold, and be able to work during the day and night.

K. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk,

sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and

arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee

is regularly required to talk or hear.

L. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color

vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

VI. RELATIONSHIPS

A. Internal

1. General Superintendent

To keep informed on matters pertaining to construction and maintenance, and

hot line work. To keep informed on all member services, promotional programs,

and reports on special or routine problems as they occur.

2. Other Cooperative Personnel

Informs and cooperates with other personnel on matters relating to changes in

member status and other aspects of consumer service.

B. External

Explains Cooperative policies, service procedures, and other programs, as necessary.

Advises members on correct safety standards, wiring procedures, and other information

as requested by the member. Does everything possible to maintain good relations in all

contacts with the members and the general public.

EDUCATION: High school education or equivalent required. Post-secondary high-voltage electric training strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years experience with an electric utility including

construction of new lines, working trouble calls, and staking line necessary.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have a working knowledge of RUS System of Accounts,

RUS Construction Specifications, RUS approved list of

materials, National Electrical Safety Code, and OSHA Rules

and Regulations. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in

electric industry necessary.

ABILITIES & SKILLS: Required to be able to install voltage regulators, three phase

conductors, and all other special equipment. Must be able to

supervise. Must have the ability to train in the area of voltage

drop, sectionalizing studies, etc. Must have a valid

Commercial (B) Drivers License. Must answer the phone for call

outs during storm and outage situations

WORKING CONDITIONS: Usual field, warehouse and office conditions. Inside and outside

work is required. Travel is required. Regularly exposed to varied

adverse weather conditions, such as dust, rain, extreme heat,

extreme cold, ice, snow, humidity, etc. Works long hours in

emergency situations. The noise level in the work environment is

moderate to loud.

HAZARDS: Falls, falling objects, insect bites, toxic and/or caustic chemicals,

hazardous materials, fumes and airborne particles, electric shock,

cuts, burns, poison ivy and oak, etc. Frequently works near

moving mechanical parts, vibration. Frequently works in high,

precarious places.
