About the Role

The Materials Manager will analyze costs, negotiate contract details, and offer strategies and solutions to help the company manage costs on supplies and vendor services. The Materials Manager should have strong math, analytical, organization and communication skills. This candidate should be a detail-oriented team player, possess negotiation skills and have the ability to work independently as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with sales and production to plan purchasing activities, prioritize requests, and expedite where needed.
  • Main point of contact regarding all purchasing issues for the organization.
  • Analyze business supply needs and ensure businesses are getting the best possible material.
  • Resolve pricing conflicts.
  • Works within a given budget to purchase goods and services for the organization.
  • Ensures that products are delivered in a timely manner and that the quality of the goods received is satisfactory.
  • Negotiates with vendors on price, mode of shipping and delivery time.
  • Orders goods such as office supplies on a continuing basis in order to maintain certain inventory levels.
  • Checks invoices for accuracy and authorizes the accounts payable department to issue payment.
  • Evaluates vendor performance.
  • Enters and tracks procurement data electronically.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of purchasing, expediting purchase orders, order management and/or business experience
  • Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or similar preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent change in dynamics.
  • Communication proficiency, both oral and written
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills

Preferred Skills

  • Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
