Job Summary:

The Materials Manager will analyze costs, negotiate costs, and offer strategies and solutions to help the company manage costs on supplies and vendor services.

The Materials Manager should have a background in purchasing through a MRP system, strong math, analytical, organization and communication skills. This candidate should be a detail-oriented team player, possess negotiation skills and have the ability to work independently as needed.

Responsibilities/Expectations:

• Works in a MRP system to purchase raw materials.

• Improve inventory turns.

• Manage buyers.

• Coordinate with sales and production to plan purchasing activities, prioritize requests, and expedite where needed.

• Main point of contact regarding all purchasing issues for the organization.

• Analyze business supply needs and ensure businesses are getting the best possible material.

• Resolve pricing conflicts.

• Works within a given budget to purchase goods and services for the organization.

• Ensures that products are delivered in a timely manner and that the quality of the goods received is satisfactory.

• Negotiates with vendors on price, mode of shipping and delivery time.

• Evaluates vendor performance.

Essential Skills:

• Experience purchasing in a MRP system

• Managed people

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent change in dynamics.

• Communication proficiency, both oral and written

• Strong analytical and mathematical skills

Education and Experience:

• 10 years of purchasing

• Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or similar preferred

• High School Diploma or GED required.
